Happy D.B. Cooper Day!
Today's the 36th Anniversary of the famed D.B. Cooper exploit : after Northwest Airlines flight 305 from Portland to Seattle took off, he dmanded $200,000 and four parachutes in exchange for not blowing up the plane. He got it, lowered the back stairwell of the plane during its return toward Portland, and stepped off the stairs into history.
Despite an extensive manhunt, no trace of the guy who identified himself as Dan Cooper was ever found. Many believe he died in the jump; others believe that he's still alive. There are compelling reasons to believe that he did survive, and into his 80's. However, Gary Larson's version of the events that transpired subsequent to the jump are perhaps the most compelling ever penned.
