you happen to be a tax administrator. Big Brother in the sky can now take aerial surveillance of your place and determine whether you seem to have "illegal" additions or not.
Tax Administrator George R. Brown III is already using it to adjust assessments on farms. He doesn't consider it a Big Brother tactic. He calls it "a great assessment tool," one of many to make sure people pay their fair share of taxes.
"What's on the books should be enforced, and we have new technology to do that. You compare the photos and find physical changes," Brown said.
Yes, this is reminiscent of the time the City of Portland demanded a fee of $1200 plus copies of plans in order to "decide" whether or not they would permit you to replace a wobbly back deck. Whether approved or not, you were still out the $1200. If approved, though, you got the privilege of paying additional fees for permits. What a sweet deal!
I passed on the whole thing. Built the replacement deck, sold the house. With aerial survellance, who knows what they'd have done? Government is always trying to reduce your freedom.
Your job is to maintain it.
Despite their continuing efforts.
