Portland: The City Of Lemmings
Oh, yes - they call it "The City That Works". It doesn't, of course.
City ties economy to green leadership
Portland’s City Council has approved spending thousands of dollars to market the city as the American hotbed of sustainable development – and to promote local businesses specializing in “green technology.”
Yep, "green technology" and the "creative class" are the bedrock upon which your leaders have chosen to anchor the economy. Oh, and "density" as well - an arena in which Portland politicians are second to none.
The economy may be bad - and those of Oregon and Portland even worse - but that's no reason not to throw more of your money toward the Dream. Oregon: we love dreamers.
Like this clip from Disney's "documentary", the real story is far different from that portrayed.
The myth of mass lemming suicide began when the Walt Disney movie, Wild Wilderness was released in 1958. It was filmed in Alberta, Canada, far from the sea and not a native home to lemmings. So the filmmakers imported lemmings, by buying them from Inuit children. The migration sequence was filmed by placing the lemmings on a spinning turntable that was covered with snow, and then shooting it from many different angles. The cliff-death-plunge sequence was done by herding the lemmings over a small cliff into a river.
In much the same way, Portland politicians are simply manipulating the "set". And as usual, they're spending a lot of your money to do it.
That, after all, is why the city's so "green".
Those higher-paying jobs in the manufacturing sector? Forget about them. Portland needs more baristas.

Too funny. SF calls itself the city that knows how. How to what?
