Hey, any publicity is good publicity, right, Mr. Mayor? Heck, even Duin gets it - and he doesn't get all that much, as a rule.
And the mayor -- terse, legalistic, self-absorbed and still shading the truth -- isn't helping his cause. When Adams called Leonard at 8 a.m. last Sunday morning to announce he would not resign, he told his former political ally, "I deserve due process, even though I'm the mayor."
"What Sam doesn't grasp," Leonard said, "is the difference between due process and the privilege of being mayor. That's not a right, it's an honor. At the moment I do something to betray the trust of the people who elected me, I have no due process."
Personally, I love the "magic fingers" thing Sam's got going in the above shot. It says so much. And Randy Leonard, though blowing it earlier by claiming that there are no innocent parties in this whole sordid deal, recovers well with the above lines. He gets it, or so it seems.
But there's even more on the way, as CBS News will be airing some sort of an interview with Sam's paramour this Thursday. Don't he do ya proud, Portland?
Welcome to Portland, where you only have to be 17 to enjoy a Sam Adams.
You know that Sam's just hoping this will all die down over the next five months - at which time he becomes eligible for recall.

I think the important thing to consider is that our public officials, the people we put our trust in by our vote, must be held to a higher standard than the average man.
On the other hand, what he did would be shameful even for an average man.

It's safe to say that Sam's not your average man.
