Business-friendly Portland is preparing to drive more industrial jobs out of the city in order to "protect" what they are calling an "environmental gem" - a long-industrialized stretch of the Columbia Slough.
While companies like Hanset Stainless consider the slough to be one of the last sanctuaries for industrial business in Portland, the city sees the slough as an environmental gem that needs to be protected, said Jay Sugnet, a project manager with the Bureau of Planning and Sustainability.
We just need a few more Starbucks outlets, and everything will be just fine.

Gosh who needs medical equipment, architectural interiors or restaurant equipment? Certainly not Greenies.
Greenies don't realize that manufacturers are the lifeblood of the American middle class and that in this economic climate they are hanging on by the skin of their teeth.
With the local and national confusion as to where this country is headed economically anyone that still has the means have already are weighing their options in Mexico and China.
Max- I don't know if you have seen this video but it is worth watching:

In other news, enviro-mentals are upset that BP is pouring "chemicals" into the Gulf to soak up, disperse, or disintegrate the oil.
http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory?id=11300446
"Environmental advocates have raised concerns about the use of dispersants to break up oil from the BP spill, on the grounds that the reddish bits of dispersant-treated oil may harm wildlife in the water column between the mile-deep well-head and the Gulf's surface."
They're only allowed to go out there with hip boots and organic sponges.

Actually yes, BK, but thanks for posting the link.
If I remember the PDC figure correctly, Portland lost 15,000 jobs last year. And these idiots keep pushing businesses to move away so that they can "save" these "environmental gems".
The disconnect is just amazing.
