Planning tally for new I-5 bridge: $108.5 million
That doesn’t include panel convening next week to study crossing’s design
The more I think about it, ol' Billy was right:
Let's kill all the lawyers planners; kill 'em tonight
Nearly $110 million peed away on nothing more than "planning".
This is where Republicans need to start: if you want to shrink government, you start with the many "managers", the many "planners", and the many PR folks the various government agencies have. Clean them out, and it's amazing how much cash can be saved.

Totally agree. I wonder how much of that money was spent trying to figure out a way to sneak in light rail and bike paths (when was the last time you saw someone biking on the current bridge?). Also, how much of the projected cost is for the light rail/bike path/pedestrian path (!) nonsense?

In another ironic twist, I believe the original spans only cost a fraction of this amount to build.

MS, the Glenn Jackson bridge (I-205) incorporates bike/pedestrian facilities between the four traffic lanes that run in each direction.
Total cost to build:
$169.6 million.
It opened in December, 1982.
