A well-known Portland grocery store owner is dead after a crash involving a suspected drunk driver.
John Zupan, 66, was hurt in a crash Monday night but died late Tuesday night from his injuries. Zupan was riding a motorcycle on Marine Drive near 138th Ave. in Northeast Portland when a car crossed the center line and hit him.
Zupan was in critical condition until just after 10 p.m. Tuesday when he died.
The man accused of causing the accident made his first court appearance Tuesday afternoon in Multnomah County.
Edy Reynoso-Ramirez is facing drunk driving and assault charges.
According to investigators, Reynoso-Ramirez was speeding when the crash happened. He tried to run away from the scene, said investigators.
Reynoso-Ramirez is in the country illegally and is now on an immigration hold.
There's really nothing to add to the KOIN(6) report cited above, though the link also goes to their broadcast story and delves a little further into Zupan's history. The question is, how do we stop this idiocy, when our elected representatives refuse to represent our interests - and when police refuse to enforce our laws?
This Ramirez guy should be sent to jail in his home country.

I've been following this story since it surfaced. I was sure you'd pick up on it too. What disturbs me most is the usual liberal apologists for the illegal. "What really matters is DUI enforcement". "You're only complaining because he's brown!". And so on and so forth. Bottom line: if this scum illegal were back in Mexico where he belongs, John Zupan would still be alive today.

Yeah, right. No, what bothers me is that so many refuse to accept the simple concept of "illegal". Since Zupan is dead, it seems only right to move the illegal alien into jail in his home country. If we paid the federales, it would still cost far less to keep him incarcerated under conditions far less amenable than the US system affords.
But we need to find some way to effectively target the enablers on our end. Until we can do that, nothing changes.

Just a note;
I received this yesterday and thought about sending it you.
Zupan was one of the good guys. He worked hard to bring value to his customers. Not that he was one of a million, but just a good guy who did it well.
Few will understand. He simply did it better than most. We will miss him.
