Selling fake maple syrup? That's a felony, dude - and maple syrup felons can face as much as 45 years in prison for that.
In general, people convicted of murder do less time.
Good morning, Congressman; nice to see you. Here's your cup, please return your sample to the tray to your left.

"Maple Agriculture Protection and Law Enforcement Act of 2011? This bill, known as the MAPLE Act..."
Give that man 25 years in city prison for coming up with a really, really stupid name.
Cutesy-poo acronyms should be punished to the full extent of the law.
45 years for pushing fake maple syrup? Those Canadians must have a really strong lobby.
Reminds me of the old Arlo Guthrie song, "Alice's Restaurant" where he's doing time for "conspiracy with intent to litter".
Mr A is doing 20 years for multiple aggravated murder. Mr B is doing 45 for selling a bottle of fake maple syrup.
Here's the official site following the bill:
http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=h112-3363
Sponsor: Rep. Peter Welch [D-VT]
Why did I not have to guess about the "D"?
Also 3 co-sponsors: 2 "D" from Maine, one "D" from NY.
But wait (as they say). There's more. The bill has been "referred to committee" (the equivalent of "we'll think about it".
Which committee? Two:
"The bill has been referred to the following committees:
House Judiciary
House Judiciary, Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security"
They're stark raving mad in D.C. (Maybe the "D" stands for "Doofus".)

That's why I've been thinking that we need mandatory drug-tests on those folks.
