I always like to garden at 3:30 a.m.
Apparently, that line didn't go over for a local firefighter, who was found "soaking wet and covered in mud" when Portland police caught up to him at his home.
At about 2:30 a.m. Nov. 18, Portland police received a call about a Ford Ranger that had severed a PGE utility pole and a mailbox, then tumbled down an embankment near Southwest 62nd Drive and Dickinson Street. The crash knocked out power to the area, and live power lines made it too dangerous for responders to approach the SUV.
We often drive in that area, and never noticed a ravine - but then, we keep our eyes on the road.
The fireman got off pretty easy for a DUII, although they won't let him drive the fire truck while his license is suspended, so his fireman's pay will drop to only $88,000.
Stay classy, Portland.
