Your passport costs have just jumped up: the application fee for a passport is jumping by 27 percent, from $55 to $70 with a 100 percent increase, from $20 to $40, in the passport security surcharge. There's also a $25 "execution fee", and around $10 for your photo - so all told, renewing your passport's going to set you back about $145. And if you need to add new pages to your current passport, the fee's gone from zero to $82.
Ticked off enough to want to renounce your citizenship? That used to be a no-charge deal; now it'll cost you $450.






This has to stop. It clearly works a hardship on the poor who might want to claim citizenship.
