Look, this was just a couple of brothers havin' a little fun, know what I'm sayin'? Shoot, everybody knows only white men can commit hate crimes.
"They rushed him on the porch as he tried to get the door open," Coon told KMBC. "(One of them) poured the gasoline, then flicked the Bic, and said, 'This is what you deserve. You get what you deserve, white boy.'"
You gotta admit, that's pretty bad; the victim may have permanent eye and lung damage. But is it a hate crime?
Fact is, it's been argued consistently here that there is no such thing. Assault is assault, and there's no need to be pretending to read peoples' minds and creating special classes of crime based on what you think they thought. That's just plain stupid. The very idea of "hate crime" is an abomination; we are supposed to be equal under the law.
If someone chops your hand off, is it really somehow worse because he thought you might be homosexual? Does the motivation matter? Really? Whatever the supposed motivation, you're still missing a hand.
Hate crime, like "diversity training", is nothing more than a tool that is employed to condition you to accept institutionalized discrimination. The day of that pathetic old fool, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., is long over.
That fool dreamed of a day when his children would be judged not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.
What an idiot - though perhaps useful at the time. No, the Left has "progressed" beyond that: character doesn't matter; skin color and sexual orientation is where it's at. Active discrimination is encouraged, and the last thing they want to see is a color-blind society. It's hard to do class warfare in a society like that, so they're doing everything they can to divide. That's why they don't have classes on "celebrating commonality".
Focusing on what people have in common, what they share as humans, is antithetical to what they want to accomplish. The goal of "celebrating diversity" is to focus instead on the minor differences, and to magnify them wherever possible. It's been a massive propaganda campaign, unfolding over many years.
And wherever you look today, you can see that it's been effective.

Well said, Max! It's also a tool to instill fear in those who disagree with the view of those in power. Look at what happened to Mark Steyn in Canada and Dutch politician Geert Wilders.

As you say, it's only hate when a white guy does it.

Good point; the Mark Steyn issues have been especially appalling, given that it's occurred so close to home, and given the similarities between the USA and Canada. On Wilder, it's a little different: the Dutch have always been way off-center, what with their drug acceptance, euthanasia, and as recently noted, their implementation of "death on wheels" - euthanasia vans driving straight to the door of their "patients"' residences.
The phenomenon of "hate crime" has been largely deployed as a weapon against white people; so-called minorities are almost never charged under such laws: when a 73-year-old white guy was attacked by an hispanic with a baseball bat (exiting a light-rail train in Rockwood) a few years ago and nearly killed, the hispanic was not charged with any "hate crime".
The entire concept is idiotic, and rooted in one thing: the desire to promote division.

I would be no less injured if the one doing it picked me at random, rather than having a "reason".
