WASHINGTON (CBSDC) – A study shows that most Hispanics do not prefer the term “Hispanic” or “Latino” when it comes to describing their identity.
According to a new poll conducted by the Pew Research Center, 51 percent of Hispanics would rather be identified from their family’s country of origin, instead of describing their identity as “Hispanic” or “Latino.”
95% of them think it's important to speak Spanish in the USA.
So, what we have here is that Hispanics don't want to be called Hispanic or Latino, but they want to Speak Spanish (though some recognize that it's important to speak English as well) in the USA. So what do you call them? Can you recognize a Dominican as opposed to, say, a Guatemalan? Is your "racial recognition" buzzer that finely tuned?
