The first folks to leap at the opportunity to politicize the deaths of 20 children and six adults in Newtown, Connecticut were, predictably, self-important entertainers and other Leftists who believe that our 2nd Amendment is long overdue for an expungement. Inexplicably, washed-ups like Mia Farrow seem to believe that other people care about their opinions. Even more inexplicably, some people likely do.
Of course, many in the media beat them to it, but the politicians were close behind. Has anybody else noticed that these kinds of events always follow an identical pattern?
It's a race between first responders and media to see who can get to the site first; the responders are there to help, while the media are there for promotion. Next come the washed-up entertainers; the Barbara Streisands and the Mikey Moores and the others, who pontificate as though anybody gives a rip about their views. Hot on their heels are the politicians and the MSNBC common taters, Leftists all, and all demanding immediate action - as in gutting the 2nd Amendment. It unfolds that way every time, without fail.
“After a shooting spree, they always want to take the guns away from the people who didn’t do it” -- William S. Burroughs (quote lifted from DANE)
It's curious that after every event, the baying begins - except in Chicago, where guns are banned and around a dozen people are shot every Friday night. Despite the horror and the tragedy of kids being slaughtered in their school or film buffs being gunned down in their comfortable movie theaters (both, by the way, designated "gun-free zones"), fewer than 12000 people are killed in gun-related incidents annually. More are beaten to death.
And why is there no outcry over the fact that in the USA, nearly 200,000 people die each year as a result of medical errors? Should we ban hospitals and clinics?
Of course, these are not mass murders, as occurred in Columbine and Aurora, Colorado, as was attempted in a mall in Portland, Oregon, and three days later in Newtown. But in the 1960's we had the widely publicized mass murder of eight student nurses in Chicago. In those, Richard Speck used a knife. Should we not consider knife registration?
Such registration is required in China, although on the day of the Newtown attack, 22 children were stabbed and slashed in their primary school in central China.
Now, yet again, the Left calls for gun control. They'd like to make them illegal. Then, everybody will be safe.
Bombs are illegal.
About 17 years ago, a guy named McVeigh killed 168 people - many of them children in a day-care center - in a place called Oklahoma City. Nobody called for "bomb control". Instead, the Left blamed conservatives. Just as they did following the Gabby Giffords shooting incident, and just as they did following the Aurora shootings.
Among the Left, everybody has an answer.
None of them work.
