Democrat Rep. Pete Buckley of Ashland is among a dozen Oregon legislators who want to ban "assault" weapons in the state, claiming that the recent shootings in Newtown Connecticut somehow constitutes a "tipping point". He goes on to repeat Leftist talking points:
"We have more guns in America per capita, and we have more mass murders per capita than any other nation," Buckley said.
Actually, Mexico has about 1/3 of our population, and many more mass murders (although it might help if Barky Obama and his buddy, Eric Holder, weren't giving away automatic weapons to Mexican criminals). Buckley has also apparently dismissed last years' murder of 77 people, mostly children, in Norway, the routine use of "suicide" bombers globally by peaceful Muzlims, the murder of 168 people - including at least 20 children - with a bomb in Oklahoma City, and literally hundreds of other incidents.
The shootings a few years back in Springfield, Oregon didn't seem to constitute a "tipping point", nor did the Virginia Tech shootings. But now, according to Pete, "we have".
Pete also ignores the fact that guns have been a significant part of America from day one, the fact that there are so many weapons available that they can't be "controlled", and that a ban in Oregon will do about as much good in regard to violence as the Portland ban on plastic bags has done for Saving The Planet™ from Man-Made Global Warming™.
But to Democrats, results don't matter. They're proud to receive ribbons for "participation".
