He must be; what else motivates the head of NAACP to declare that S.C. Senator Tim Scott is - among other things - a "token"?Scott's only the seventh black dude ever to serve in the U.S. Senate, so you'd think that would be cause for celebration among even the professional hucksters and race-baiters, but you'd be wrong. The problem isn't that Scott's not black enough - it's that he's a Republican.
To Ben Jealous, that means that Scott neither knows about - nor cares about - civil rights. Only Democrats know anything about such important issues; after all, it was Democrats who enacted Jim Crow laws, founded the Ku Klux Klan, and took other important steps toward safeguarding civil liberties in this country.
Given their history, it's difficult to understand how blacks came to hold Democrats in such high esteem - all the more so since Lincoln and Dr. Martin Luther King were both Republicans.
