How else to explain it? If she took
pride in her ancestry, why would she take such pains to cover it up? Why wear straight-haired wigs? It seems clear that she hates who she is; that whole nappy-hair thing really bothers her. Deep down, it almost seems as though she's a racist who harbors an intense dislike of her own roots. She talks all green and sustainable, but there's nothing natural about her. It's spooky. No wonder Barky spends so much time on the links.
