Once upon a time, California was largely desert. And after four decades of Leftist rule, in combination with the professional alarmists, they're well on their way to returning to that natural condition which they so prize. They've been dedicating billions of dollars to vanity projects such as the high-speed train to nowhere, tearing out dams and power plants, and diverting water from agricultural use to "preserve" a 5-centimeter baitfish, all in homage to their Green gods.
Businesses are leaving and taking their jobs with them, and the middle class is rapidly shrinking. Farming communities in the Central Valley are being decimated, and much like Portland, Oregon, one-quarter of their roads are in poor condition. It's estimated that the state needs to spend $6 billion a year on their roads, yet governor Moonbeam has allocated $1,5 billion - diverting another $5 billion toward their shiny high-speed rail project.
It's a great place to be, if you happen to be an environmeddlist lawyer. They love being smugly green, even if the state itself is broke.
Increasingly, California depends on other states for power (such as Arizona and Oregon). And a few years ago, they were exploring the possibility of tapping the Columbia River for water; an option abandoned in the face of intense opposition and the fact that they have no money to pay for such a project.
At the rate they're devolving, it seems but a matter of time before most of the state is returned to Nature. All bow.
