Amazingly, new gov. Kate has agreed with Republicans that Oregon needs its ethics rules clarified and strengthened.
Governor Kate Brown today released the following statement regarding introduction of her ethics and public records legislation:
“The turmoil surrounding Governor Kitzhaber’s resignation has caused Oregonians to question their trust in state government. Together with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle, we will take action this session to ensure that this situation is not repeated.
This is really kind of surprising, as Brown has always been fiercely partisan. The revelations surrounding the affairs of former gov. Retread and his First Squeeze seem to have hit home, and she seems determined to work with both major parties to find a way to fix things.
That's an interesting development.
