DENVER -- One of the suspects accused of trying to rob and then killing a man at a Denver light rail station, was in custody in Denver and wanted for possible deportation by federal authorities when he was released from jail weeks before the murder.
Ever Valles is currently in jail in Denver along with another man for the killing of Tim Cruz, 32, at the 12th and Sheridan light rail train station on February 7. He and Nathan Valdez were formally charged Friday for murder.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement had placed a detainer on Valles after Denver police arrested him in October 2016 for car theft and other charges. That means ICE wanted to be notified of any pending release because he was suspected of being in the United States illegally.
The detainer wasn't honored; DPD sent a fax to ICE less than half an hour before they turned the guy loose, so there wasn't enough time for agents to get there before the guy vamoosed.
Result: a dead American citizen. I'm with Ferret-top on this: cut off all federal funding to cities and states that want to make themselves feel good by being "inclusive" and welcoming to illegal aliens. And yes, that most certainly includes my state - which has been run into the ground by Democrat transplants from back east for over thirty years. I'd love to be able to deport those jerks back to their homes as well.
