Oh, say it isn't so! Leaders of the two largest public employee unions are under investigation for criminal activity? Can't they just tell their pal the Guv and their other pals in the Legislature to just back off?
Well, they probably won't really need to do that, because the OEA and SEIU own the state attorney general, Mr. Hardly Matters, along with most of the rest of the leftist politicians in the state. Hardly will likely determine that it's all just a misunderstanding and so there's no need to prosecute anybody on the class C felony. Unsurprisingly, our old friend Patty Wentz is the major player in this, and she - following her usual style - disdainfully sniffs at the investigation, haughtily proclaiming that some folks just don't understand Oregon law. She's sort of like "taxes are for the little people" Leona Helmsly (sp questionable on the last name). Like Leona, Patty views herself as above the law, because either laws don't apply to her or because people are too stupid to understand the law in the first place.
While Oregon law does permit political non-profits to engage in communications and education in ballot-measure campaigns without filing as a political action committee, Patty's group wasn't "educating" anybody. They were spending a hundred thousand dollars of mostly union money to engage in campaign propagandizing. Which means that her little "Our Oregon" group should have been registered as the political action committee that it was - and is.
