Ever noticed how environmental alarmists never have any workable solutions to what they see as problems? It's all the same old tune, wheezing and raunching along: Give up, stop, quit. Just don't expect us to do it, because we're special. And oh, by the way - don't develop new technologies. Europe and some African countries have famously rejected Genetically Modified (GMO) food crops, for example. In Europe's case, they simply refuse to try anything unless it's been proven absolutely, positively, 100% safe. Fearful of trying anything new, they've gone from being leaders to passive followers. Meanwhile, in African countries, some of them are convinced that GMO products are yet another attempt by the sneaky, underhanded Americans to poison them.
Yet with the current emphasis upon biofuels such as ethanol and biodiesel, the introduction of GMO crops should be welcomed with open arms, rather than shunned. Once again, however, it is the less fortunate who pay so that "environmentalists" can feel good about themselves while giving up none of their perks. And they want you to give up, rather than continue to innovate.
They'd like you to use clotheslines, rather than dryers (not easy in the Pacific Nortwest).
They'd like you to keep your thermostat set to 82.4 degrees in the summer (presumably, this doesn't apply to folks who lack air-conditioning).
They'd like you to make only right turns if you MUST drive.
And they'd like you to take fewer trips on "carbon spewing" jet craft.
Apparently, AlGore hasn't got that last message, and you have to wonder whether staunch environmeddlists like Sheryl Crow are making only right turns as the entourage drives across country on touring dates. Saving fuel? No really - that's only for the "little people" - like you.
Oregon governor Ted Kulongoski has spoken out in support of wave power, and the surfing community has taken keen interest. Why? Well, they'd like to continue driving out to the coast to catch some waves, and they surely don't want no steenkin' power plants gumming up the works, no matter how environmentally friendly thay might be. They're "green" - but only to a point, for godsake.
The world would be so much better if only you would quit, stop, don't.
