Actually, it's not warfare at all. It boils down to what works best for the purpose. Safari for Windows runs amazingly fast, and it's really the browser of choice if you're just looking at surfing the Web. If you're blogging, however, you'll likely find Safari lacking in ability. This is where Firefox or IE can actually outperform Safari. Adding Maxthon to IE actually seems to enhance the IE engine, probably because the Maxthon hooks are extremely well-engineered.
Firefox, of course, is the main alternative to IE and its kin - and it not only retains the functionality afforded in the IE environment - it enhances them.
For speed and features, Firefox generally outperforms IE, even when IE is enhanced by Maxthon or other layers. In terms of pure speed, Safari edges out Firefox, but it can't handle extensions that don't cause Firefox so much as a hiccup.
If Safari ever develops the capability of Firefox - without losing the speed advantage - it'll be a killer browser.
