As noted in Oregon Catalyst, government's always on the lookout for ways to waste your time and money.
Clackamas County is fishing for new ways to waste tax dollars. The county is currently tearing up freshly-paved roads in rural Canby and Molalla, and installing “fish-friendly” culverts where irrigation ditches cross roads.
The fact that there are no fish (and have never been any fish) in these ditches has led neighborhood residents to believe there is something “fishy” with the county’s rational. (sic)
Of course, they're all over "saving the planet" from "global warming", as well. Even though less than half of the scientists engaged in active research support the AlGore/Bradbury scenario. Marc Morano cited a July 2007 review of 539 abstracts in peer-reviewed scientific journals from 2004 through 2007 that found that climate science continues to shift toward the views of global warming skeptics.
Obviously, this doesn't mean that global warming is not occuring here, as it is on Mars and other planets. What it does mean is that human activity - contrary to the Gospel of Gore - is pretty definitively not responsible for the phenomenon. That doesn't matter to governmental officials and bureaucrats, however, because they are not about to let a golden opportunity to dip into your wallet in order to fund their social engineering experiments just slip away.
They'll continue to "plan" 19th-century technology; diverting your 21st-century highway funds to build their utopian dream. Is it a huge surprise that Columbia Sportswear has declined Portland's overtures toward moving their headquarters back into the City That Fails? Any wonder that families are moving away in droves? Any wonder that the Portland Public Schools student population declines every year?
We don't buy the BS from CoPo and Metro.
