It's all starting to fall down around Multnomah County Sheriff Bernie Giusto's ears. Years of rot in Oregon government becomes increasingly visible with each passing day - and it all revolves around Democrats. No big surprise, there.
After impersonating Sergeant Shultz of "Hogan's Heros" fame for so many years ("I know nothing! Nothing!"), ol' hotpants finally has admitted that he did indeed, nearly 20 years ago, share information about former Oregon Governor Neil Goldshmidt's systematic and long-term rape of a girl, which began when she was fourteen years old - at which time Goldschmidt was Mayor of Portland. The deets are available in the DOJ 's 318-page report of their investigation into the activities of ol' hotpants, but The Oregonian finally got a staffer to leave the hammock long enough to write a brief article that suggests that o'l hotpants is going down - and for once, not in a sexual manner.
The report also said that Margie Goldschmidt, the governor's former wife, "stated that Giusto knew about Goldschmidt's crime during the Goldschmidt administration." The report quoted her as saying "there was nothing that he could have done about it." Margie Goldschmidt wouldn't discuss what she told Giusto, according to the report.
Assigned to service in the role of hizzoner the Governor's driver, hotpants quickly assumed other services - notably, boinking hizzoner's wife, Margie Goldschmidt.
The Oregonian reported last week that former Goldschmidt administration officials and associates said Giusto, the governor or others told them Giusto was having an affair with Margie Goldschmidt when Giusto was her husband's state police driver.
Two of his Oregon State Police supervisors told the newspaper that Giusto denied any relationship with Margie Goldschmidt when they questioned him after rumors about the affair reached them. Giusto was transferred out of the security detail in March 1989 as a result of the rumors.
The 318-page report also produced evidence that Giusto may have lied to the public about his dealings with Jim Jeddeloh, a prominent Portland businessman, and Jeddeloh's wife, Lee Doss. The report cited information that Giusto lied about his handling of a concealed weapons permit for Jeddeloh and about the timing of his personal relationship with Doss, who now is divorced from Jeddeloh.
Bernie may not be much as a Sheriff, but if Margie and Lee are any indication, he's got other skills.
So he may still be able to make a good living; it just doesn't look as though he can do it with a lawman's badge on his shirt. He's been caught in one lie, and the investigation has established evidence that he may have lied to the public on more than one occasion. While he may have a future in the porn industry, it seems unlikely that he'll go any further in law enforcement.
