When it comes to pet projects, Sam can always find a pot'o'money. His latest pet, of course, is relocating the old Sauvie Island Bridge and installing it in all its glory across Interstate 405 at NW Flanders St. Now, you could build a new bike/pedestrian bridge, like they did over on SE McLoughlin, for $2.5 million less, but with Sam, money is no object. This pet's just so darn cool!
Who cares that some neighborhoods need around $1.5 million for sidewalks? They've been waiting for years - they can wait some more. While Portland mayor Tom Potter has been largely stupid during his tenure, he finally got one right: Sam's pet project is a needless waste of taxpayer dollars, directed to an upscale "neighborhood" that really doesn't need the largesse.
It's long past time to kick Sam to the curb.
