This is emblematic of the main problem with Leftists: they're insane. Everything is, to them, a religious belief - and not a benign one, at that. Intellectually, they're at the same level as Islamic terrorists.
Don't believe in Anthropogenic Climate Change? You're not simply wrong; you're stupid, greedy, and evil. You want to destroy the planet. They actually believe this stuff with a spittle-flying, foam-at-the-mouth religious fervor.
They're incapable of understanding at any level whatsoever the simple fact that most people want the same things: comfort and safety; a good life for ourselves, for our children, and for our grandchildren. On the face of it, then, it makes no sense to fly into a spittle-laden tirade of invective and accusation simply because many of these same people fundamentally disagree with the Religion. If we want these things for our children and our grandchildren, it should be obvious that we have no desire to destroy the planet. Leftists, however, can't see that.
It's the same in their choice of American politicians: Obama simply must win. Never mind the fact that, as Rush Limbaugh has noted, "That guy can say nothing better than anyone I have ever heard say nothing."
They actually believe that the Republican mafia stole the last two elections. And if their boy Obambi doesn't win this election, they're absolutely determined to engage in violence to demonstrate their displeasure. These are not idle terrorist threats; they will do what they can to make it happen.
There's nothing you can say to people who firmly believe, with deep religious fervor, that President Bush has recalled troops from Iraq so that Cheney can lead them into battle against American citizens. Literally, as far as the Left are concerned, you're damned if you do, and damned if you don't.
For years, these folks have protested the "illegal War in Iraq" and demanded that our troops be removed. To them, it was all about oil - and Halliburton, of course. Yet when troops are removed, it's suddenly an insidious plot to repress American freedoms by force of arms. It all makes sense - to the Left. To everybody else, it's silly. But it's deadly serious as far as the Left are concerned.
These traits are what make the Left so dangerous. They lack any analytical ability. They replace thought with "feeling", and they replace fact with religion. They view themselves as paragons of tolerance; claiming great respect for freedom of expression - but only as long as you agree with them.
