That was the name of a B-grade movies some years ago, which seems to apply to the present situation in California. SEIU, the state's largest public employee union, has voted to take "steps" - including the possibility of a strike. 74% of the membership, according to the thugs who head it up, have authorized a strike (no word on whether or not this tally was achieved via "card-check" or secret ballot, but the former seems likely).
They're "outraged" at Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's decision to unilaterally furlough state workers three days each month.
So rather than give up 3 days of pay per month, they're willing to walk off the job entirely. That makes a lot of sense during this economic situation. It sounds like a winner for the state, so they should seize the opportunity.
Most of the citizens seem ready to send a message to SEIU: "If you want to find sympathy, try looking between 'ship' and 'syphilis' in the dictionary."
Skimming the comments to the story, there just aren't many folks on the union's side. I'm including an AFSCME "ad" at the bottom - sorry about the language.
Please strike my University Educated Daughter could use a job in this very bad economy of California's and it realistic 16% unemployment. In fact I don't doubt there are enough daughters and sons, mothers and fathers to fill every position opened when the SEIU foes the way of the Air Flight Controlers Union.
I also have little doubt the new employees will be happy to work for from 75% to 80% of the pay, and 1/2 the benefits, so PLEASE go out on strike and let others who want jobs have yours.
Thank you for your cooperation SEIU.
Let them walk. They won't be missed. They can be replaced in due time with half as many bodies at lower cost to the taxpayer.
