A number of animals, such as sea turtles, pigeons, and even bacteria appear to employ sensitivity to magnetic fields to guide their movements; sometimes over extremely long distances. Humans generally lack this ability, but it doesn't mean that you're immune to the forces of magnetics. The right temporal-parietal junction, located just behind your right ear, appears to respond to magnetic interference. Specifically, applied magnetics in this area appears to affect moral judgement, if results of recent studies are correct in their current interpretation.
This may explain the behavior of politicians, such as Portland "mayor" Sam Adams. When he was a baby, he likely slept on his right side, with a magnet-laden pillow to cradle his tender head.
Or not. More likely, most politicians are simply born with genetic defects in the parietal junction which renders them incapable of sound moral judgement. This is why most in D.C. are lawyers: if you have a moral defect, you don't address it - you try to get around it. Law school!
