Arizona's illegal alien law is of course all the rage, right now, but less widely reported is the issue that Egypt has with Palestinians. The Palestinians have dug hundreds of tunnels across the border into Egypt, and these tunnels are being used to smuggle not only goods, but weapons back into Gaza. Egypt routinely blows up the mouths of tunnels that they find, and a recent such operation resulted in the deaths of half a dozen Palestinians. Hamas claims that Egypt gassed the tunnels; Egypt denies it and notes that one unfortunate consequence of blowing up tunnels is that the oxygen in the tunnel is quickly consumed, which may cause any occupants to suffocate.
Egypt is now in the process of sinking steel walls into the ground in an effort to enforce their border security.
Both approaches, of course, would be met with fierce resistance in the USA from illegal alien sympathizers; for whom the simple act of one state to enforce existing laws are anathema, and greeted with histrionics. Leftists across the country are damning the Arizona legislation, and are calling for boycotts of the state. Amusingly, a drink labeled Arizona (but produced in New York) has also been hit with boycott threats. This shows just how unhinged the Leftists are; they're calling for boycotting a company that has never had any connection with Arizona, other than using the name in a product label.
Back in Arizona itself, one Democratic showed his true colors: Rep. Raul Grijalva (D-Ariz.), who represents a congressional district that
includes 300 miles of the U.S.-Mexico border, turned and walked away and did not
answer when CNSNews.com asked him whether he was committed to sealing the border
against the influx of illegal drugs.
“Are you committed to sealing the
border against the influx of illegal drugs?” CNSNews.com asked Grijalva, who had
stopped for an interview.
Rather than answer, Grijalva walked away,
eventually shouting back at the reporter that it was “punkish” to ask the
question. But around 100,000 illegals have left the state already, and many more plan to do so in the near future.
Many day laborers like Diaz say they will leave Arizona because of the law,
which also makes it a state
crime to be in the U.S. illegally and directs police to question people
about their immigration status if there is reason to suspect they are illegal
immigrants.
Diaz says he has too much to lose by staying — he's supporting a wife and infant
son back home in Ciudad
Juarez, Mexico, across the border from El
Paso, Texas.
Right there, from the mouth of an illegal alien, is the truth that gives the lie to the whole Leftist argument that these are simply "undocumented immigrants". It's very clear that they are not here as immigrants, with an intention to become members of our society. They're here to make money that they can send back home. They're not here "to do the jobs that Americans won't do" - they're here to undercut Americans in construction and other jobs, collect money "under the table", and send it out of our country; back home.
This law, which Leftists call "racist", Fascist", and a bunch of other stuff, hasn't yet taken effect - yet is already exerting a profound effect. Illegals are self-deporting. Granted, they're mostly moving to other states - but imagine the effect if every state followed the Arizona lead.
It is the responsibility of the federal government to secure our borders. But they're too busy nationalizing health care, nattering about privacy on Facebook, and doing other important stuff to bother with their core functions. These core functions therefore fall to the states, and Arizona has acted appropriately.
One question for any aspirant to the Oregon governorship:
If similar legislation was forwarded to your desk, would you sign it?
