Most likely, you've heard that a loose-knit group calling themselves "Anonymous" launched a series of DDOS attacks against organizations that they perceived to be "anti-WikiLeaks".
Members of Anonymous claim that the DDoS attacks were peaceful protests, but the FBI doesn’t see it that way. And I imagine that most of the 40 people who were raided weren’t really hackers as much as they’re idiots who downloaded and used Anon’s Low Orbit Ion Cannon (LOIC) tool, not realizing that without protection and without knowing what they’re doing is just a giant beacon that can be seen from space saying “Hello FBI, come to my house, kick down my door and seize my computers.”
That, of course, is exactly what happened. Imagine the outrage.
If you don't know what you're doing, don't get involved. Hey, I do know what I'm doing, so none of my systems got involved.
