Good grief - Portland just attracts them like roaches to a telephone. It's really time to wake up and smell the Stumptown, folks - quit electing liars like Scam Adams and "Streetcar" Charlie. Why do you keep doing that? For crying out loud, don't you think it's time to get at least one adult into office at City Hall?
This time around, Barky's trying to capitalize on the killing of Osama bin Laden; painting an image of himself as glorious Leader, directing the troops, while dismissing the idea that Romney or anyone else would ever have had the guts to take bin Laden out. Even Ariana Huffington has ripped him for that, stating that to turn it into a campaign ad is one of the most despicable things you can do.
But since he's taking credit for killings, let's add up his list: he's killed American citizens, and claims "full authority" to order such killings. He's also working assiduously to kill our country's relationships with our strongest allies while simultaneously destroying global respect for American integrity and resolve.
He's killing our economy, killing energy sources, killing hundreds of Mexicans and the occasional Border Patrol officer, and killing our environment.
Bird enthusiasts are calling on the Obama administration to cease its devastating war on birds and reverse an obscure mining rule killing possibly a million or more birds a year.
And the solar arrays and windmills he insists upon kill even more wildlife - and in some cases, desecrate sacred grounds.
Oh, occasionally, somebody has to get thrown under his bus for telling the truth, but overall, he's assembled a truly astounding portfolio of destruction.
Of course, he told you that he intended to "fundamentally transform" America. And that, in all probability, is the only truthful statement he's uttered.
Even if you're one of those types who despises America but loves wildlife, like birds and bats and tortoises, while doing all you can to Save The Planet™, you cannot in good conscience cast a ballot to retain such a force for wanton destruction of all that you hold dear.
Two great items in the news today: as has been discovered in other states, Oregon's "Trail" cards, ostensibly given to the poorest of the poor to help them pay for utilities, rent, and food (to the tune of $16 million a month) are being used by some folks to get cash at strip clubs, casinos, and liquor stores. What a surprise! Hey, it's free money, and as one commenter brilliantly notes:
There should be nothing wrong if they use their card at a casino to buy food, they have to have a vacation too, just like you and me, if you are so concern about that little bet of money than how about our state and federal spending, are these people getting rich on public asst. Atleast they are not charging the goverment 55.000.00 for a vacation in vegas
"Kim", it seems, is a graduate of Portland Public Schools. Note the excellent command of the English language. The article goes on to observe that the practice isn't illegal,
But Oregon officials along with those in other states say this kind of activity undermines the integrity of government safety-net programs. Some states, including Washington, have passed laws to restrict such abuse.
Undermines the integrity of the programs? The hell you say! That's really not possible, as they have no integrity to begin with. The Oregon Trail cards are issued primarily so that recipients don't feel "stigmatized" when using them, as was so often the case a few years ago, when the state issued booklets of food stamps. Oh, the horror! It borders on abuse for people to feel stigmatized - it might motivate them to go find a job.
It gets better: as Oregon Catalyst reports today, the state wants to impose a fee upon people who draw water from their own private wells. Oregon Water Resources Department has increased its staff by nearly 20% over the past decade - they need to pay for the overhead somehow. So in addition to paying to drill the well, pump the water, maintain the system - Oregon's WRD thinks it's a good idea to charge users a fee in addition. They just never stop coming up with creative ways to steal your money.
So prices are lifting up faster than you can say "dirigible". No, not talking about the greenie fantasy known as "peak oil" - this is real world: we're running out of helium. In fifty years or so, your kids may not get to be the life of the party with those funny, helium-laden squeaky voices, so they'll have to get their kicks some other way. Fortunately, we'll still have politicians, so there'll be enough hot air to fill balloons.
Bloomberg News reports that the North Carolina host committee has raised only half of its $36.6 million goal for the convention. So how do the Democrats go about making up for the shortfall (and why are they planning to spend nearly $37 million to hold their convention in Charlotte)?
The answer to the latter question, in brief, is that North Carolina is expected to be among a handfull of states that may be able to deliver another term for Barry.
The answer to the former: having decided not to accept contributions from evil corporations, which they regard as mere "special interest" groups, the Dems are hitting up their old friends in the labor unions - which are notably free from the stain of the "special interest" label. So they're "reaching out" to the public employee unions (SEIU), the AFL-CIO, UAW, and Teamsters in hopes of getting them to fork over enough "member dues" to cover their little soiree.
After all, if there's one thing Chicago Democrats excel at, it's "reaching out". They invented "pay to play".
Today in Nigeria, Christian students were targeted in a bomb and automatic rifle attack as they held a religious service in a lecture hall at Bayero university in Kano. Various sources indicate that students fleeing a bomb detonation inside the hall were gunned down by members of the Religion of Peace™ as they exited the building. "At least" 16 are reported dead; another half-dozen seriously injured.
Also today, the headless body of a U.K. physician was found dumped beside a road in southwestern Pakistan. The 60-year-old doctor, who had been working with the International Committee of the Red Cross, was kidnapped in early January; apparently for the crime of managing a health program for Pakistanis.
Andrew Breitbart collapsed and died suddenly of an apparent massive heart attack. The conservative firebrand wasn't yet 50. And oddly, the coroner who was pursuing the investigation into his death has up and died himself:
BURBANK (CBS) — An official with the Los Angeles County coroner’s office may have been poisoned with arsenic, police said Friday.
KNX 1070′s John Brooks reports investigators are taking a closer look at the death of 61-year-old Micheal Cormier.
Cormier, a respected autopsy and forensic technician who also was a photographer with the special operations response team, was rushed to St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Burbank from his North Hollywood home one week ago.
Hospital staff eventually advised police that there may be “suspicious circumstances” surrounding Cormier’s death, said LAPD Lt. Alan Hamilton.
“We have information that could potentially include foul play,” Hamilton said.
Foul play? In a country in which the President has stated that he has the authority to kill a U.S. citizen at any time?
Residents of a Chicago condo received a letter from management last week informing them that they should move out of their homes during the upcoming NATO confab to be held in the Windy City next month. Local business owners are concerned about mass rioting by leftist goons attending the summit protests.
Now this… The Milwaukee Red Cross was told to prepare for a possible evacuation during this summit.
