A rural southern Oregon property owner in Eagle Point has been fined $1500 and sentenced to 30 days in jail for constructing three reservoirs on his property to collect and retain water from rain and snow that falls onto his property. The state claims that water is owned by the Medford Water Commission.
Harrington said he stores the water mainly for fire protection and has pledged to appeal his convictions.
Oddly, further north in Gervais, Eola Bottling has done the same thing: collecting rainwater that falls onto their property, which was then bottled and sold under the label, Oregon Rain. Apparently, that's not a problem anywhere but in the Medford area.
Oregon Rain is really rain water that is harvested on a rain farm in the coastal range of Oregon. There on over one acre of land, rain falls average 38 inches per year, producing over one million gallons of pure delicious water.
Oregon Rain never touches the earth and is naturally mineral free. This gives the rain a pure, almost sweet taste that compliments food and beverages. Oregon Rain is a premium water of superior quality.
Government in this state can be really funky and contradictory.
