Desperate to get their toy train, Clackamas County commissioners leaped to approve bond sales ahead of next month's election, in which citizens there are widely expected to approve a measure disallowing use of County funds for such purposes without a public vote.
Chairwoman Charlotte Lehan and commissioners Jamie Damon and Ann Lininger hailed the new agreement as a financially wise deal that will save taxpayer money.
Lehan has a well-earned reputation for circumventing the will of the citizens in order to get her pet projects rammed through, because She Knows Best. She is expected to be vote out of office, along with cohort Damon, in the November elections. Linninger, unfortunately, is not up for re-election.
On the heels of that bit of subterfuge, a referendum petition was filed yesterday afternoon in an effort to block the action of the three commissioners. While understandable, in light of the generalized public outrage regarding the behavior of these three commissioners, the legality of the referendum is open to question, as they generally aren't applicable to administrative actions.
