Unable to get anywhere on the basis of his hucksterism, which he for years passed off as "science", Penn State's Michael Mann is seeking legal recourse to demand that his detractors be silenced. Mann, of course, invented the "hockey stick" graph - which purported to demonstrate that human activity was responsible for global warming.
The hockey stick was featured in the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s Third Assessment Report (2001), but was dropped in its Fourth Assessment Report (2007). E-mails from and to Professor Mann featured prominently in what became known as the Climategate scandal.
The guy's "hockey stick" has been discredited, and so now he's attempting to suppress First Amendment rights through litigation; in effect, he's attempting to end discussion and debunking regarding his beliefs: deniers must be gagged by any means available. So far, he's threatened to sue Mark Steyn (the good "scientist" may want to check into Steyn's record in such cases), National Review, and CEI. Probably others, as well.
Yep, that's the mark of a true scientist.
