Gladys McCoy's close relative, who was moved into a cushy job as the City of Portland Parking Manager due entirely to nepotism, was forced to resign after coming under federal investigation into his activities. Yesterday, the other shoe dropped:
Former Portland parking manager Ellis McCoy pleaded guilty Wednesday morning in a downtown courtroom to taking bribes, filing false income tax returns and conspiring to pay and accept bribes.
Gladys was a Multnomah County commissioner and wielded considerable influence in the Portland area; back when what is now called Metro Oregon Zoo was constructing its "Africa Bush" set of exhibits - which comprise about 1/3 of the zoo venue - she objected to the name, claiming that it was disrespectful to black women. She prevailed; the name was changed to "Africa".
