Panopticon

All-seeing, all-knowing. It's not there yet, but governments in so-called First World nations are rapidly acquiring capabilities for monitoring their citizens exceeding even the imaginations of Aldous Huxley and George Orwell, thanks to technology. Few tools are as effective at ensuring a high degree of quiesence and compliance amongst a populace as demonstrations that privacy is now illusory.
