Portland hands out tax breaks like it's your money. They do it all the time; remember Portland mayor Sammy crowing about getting that solar company to locate in NE Portland (the company was planning to locate in Wilsonville, but that town wouldn't fork over the pork)? How about bankrupt "battery maker" ReVolt? Yep, that was another feather in Sammy's duster. And of course, there's the nearly-bankrupt wind-power "giant", Vestas, who moved their "North American Headquarters" into tony NW Portland with the help of a few million in tax breaks.
But those are just the "green" companies that Sammy likes to promote. CoPo also handed out breaks to several investment management companies - one of which blew town anyhow.
Yet if you know anything about Porkland, this will come as no surprise: they don't bother to track how well those "investments" work out - or fail to work out.
Ah, well - Sammy and his BFF Randy "the Hoser" leave office in just a few more days, and then the new batch of clowns pile out of the mini.
