English: Morning Oregonian, Monday, January 22, 1912
A few days ago, TD posted about the ongoing demise of The Oregonian (there's a reason why his blog's in the sidebar!), and about four hours ago, they confirmed it: they're shedding staff, going to a three-day-a-week home delivery schedule, and concentrating on digital media. Working from a brief story he spotted in Willamette Week and some other resources he dug up, he left little doubt that The Zero was going down.
They are now appropriately registered as Oregonian Media Group; appropriately, as their new acronym is OMG!
If they'd stayed with actually reporting news, rather than their preferred combination of reprinted government agency press releases and opinion presented as news, they might have had a longer run. For Portlanders, however, this development is especially disturbing, as the Portland Bureau of Planning and Sustainability has for the past year or more been advising residents to line their city-issued kitchen-slop buckets with newspaper. NOW what do they do?
