"Furthur", Ken Kesey and the Merry Pranksters' famous bus, Hempfest 2010, Myrtle Edwards Park, Seattle, Washington, 2010
Eugene, Oregon is about as schizophrenic a city as exists anywhere in the USA. On the one hand, home to legendary Ken Kesey and the Merry Pranksters, as well as home base for the bizarre-fest known as Oregon Country Fair, it's listed as the top town in the country for hippies. At he same time, the ostentatiousness of what today is amusingly referred to as "College Athletics" is showcased at University of Oregon, with its $68 million "Football Performance Center" - which really has to be seen to be believed. Even then, you may shake your head in disbelief.
Go Ducks. Go Hippies. Eugene can't make up its mind.
