So here we are, 31 days into CoverUp Oregon, and nobody's been able to buy health insurance through the exchange. Oregon gov. Retread claims everything's going to be just fine, though; it just might take a couple more months to get it working. Of course, if you don't get insurance by Dec. 15, you won't be covered come January.
Kitzhaber said it’s too soon judge who to hold accountable for the problems, but said he’s looking at the contractors working on the software and someone will absolutely be held accountable.
"We're on it. I'm in conversations every day with Cover Oregon and the technical folks, and we're going to make it work," he said.
Well, that's darn comforting, right there. Of course, in Democratese, being "held accountable" translates as "no consequences". Just as Hillary, Kathleen, Eric the Red, and a host of others have been "held accountable". It's not like you can hold Barry accountable, because he never knows what's going on until it's reported in the media. So there's that.
About 150,000 Oregonians enrolled in individual health care plans will see their plans canceled by the end of the year because the plans don’t provide the minimum level of coverage required under the new health care law, Oregon officials said Wednesday.
Those facing cancellations could see a break in coverage if they don’t enroll in a new plan on the state’s problem-plagued online exchange by Dec. 15, said Cheryl Martinis, a state Insurance Division spokeswoman.
But a month in, the state has not enrolled a single person. Cover Oregon has received 4,260 paper applications and its website still can’t tell people what subsidies they are eligible for.
If they're eligible for any. But fear not; if you have coverage through Blue Cross Blue Shield, or through Kaiser, or through any of a number of other health insurance providers, you'll be fine - there won't be any break in coverage if you can't enroll through CoverUp Oregon by 15 Dec. because they'll just transition you from your current plan (which they're discontinuing) to a similar plan at twice the price. It's nice to know they're thinking of you, and they've got your back. Even if the only reason they've got your back is so they can twist the knife more effectively.
Cover Oregon officials declined to name a date when they expect the website will be functional enough to enroll anyone and they could not explain how they plan to sign up hundreds of thousands of people within a month and half.
Meanwhile, if you visit the federal site, they've made a bit of a change; nothing works, but they've removed the grinning "glitch girl" from the home page. So there's some progress.
