The International Association of Machinists in D.C., which pushed for the vote, is touting what it calls Boeing's $1 billion-plus upgrade over its previous rejected offer. And it's emphasizing the threat that another rejection would send the 777X project to another state
The Seattle-based Machinists District Lodge 751, on the other hand, is playing up what it calls the offer's "massive takeaways" and gaps in detail.
"Massive takeaways" are all thugs ever talk about; however reasonable the offer may be, they always characterize it as having massive takeaways". In this case, Boeing plans to replace the fixed pension plan with a retirement savings plan - just like I've had for years. Oh, the horror, the horror! In the words of the thugs themselves, straight from their website:
Dear Brothers and Sisters:
If you have not already heard, we want to let you know that the International is forcing a vote on Boeing’s latest proposal on January 3, 2014.
Due to the massive takeaways, your District 751 leadership is united with a recommendation that you reject this proposal. You need to look at the facts of the economic destruction you would have to live under for the next 11 years, without any opportunity to change any provisions of the contract.
Isn't it sweet, the way they're always referring to the folks whose money they take each month by the endearing term, "Brothers and Sisters"? Now, if they was ta agree to the contract proposal, Boeing would commit to building the 777X in Everett, whereas if they reject the contract offer, the company very likely will simply move assembly elsewhere. And there go all of those nice, high-paying jobs. They'll have their pension, but no more corporate money feeding it. Oh gee, they'll also have to buy their own health insurance, for themselves and their families. But who knows? With no job, they might qualify for Medicaid.
The 777X is already selling well; producing them is going to provide years of work to those who want the jobs.
