Eugene-Springfield residents who want to know what it’s like to live on food stamps are being asked to do just that for a week in January.
However, as noted further down, the Oregon Department of Human Services observes that SNAP benefits are (as the first letter of the acronym indicates) "supplemental". As in, "not meant to meet all of the food needs of a household or an individual".
That being the case, what's the point of holding a "Food Stamp Challenge"? You're not expected to survive on food stamps, as the agency that issues them makes clear. Is there something about the term, "supplemental" that somehow escapes the organizers?
