Their managing editor for sports, Seth Prince, and another editor, Susan Nielsen, along with health writer and Zoo reporter Katy Muldoon have all announced their departure this week. Prince will be taking a job teaching journalism at University of Oklahoma (don't envy him that; the wind doesn't blow in Texas, Oklahoma sucks).
Muldoon is apparently tired of the continued insistence by Advance Publications back in New York on enforcing strict quotas for website hits - an insistence maintained despite the unassailable fact that their websites suck. Nielsen offered no explanation. The three are just the latest in a series of ship-jumpers since Advance bought the former Northwest daily.
Muldoon won't be missed; for the most part, her "reporting" consisted of puff-pieces or reprinted press releases, although on rare occasion she had actually done some digging; as when Oregon Zoo fired a respected and long-time primatologist. Prince, by contrast, is respected among sports writers and editors, so the paper's taking a hit in losing him.
Look for even less actual coverage as the twenty and thirty-somethings continue to take over.
