Lest you wonder why we're broke, here's another piece of the puzzle:
The Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon (TriMet) has obtained a $1.5 million grant to add more parking for bicycles at two MAX light-rail stations.
All told, the total cost at the current liar's budget is $1.9 million; Washington County taxpayers get to contribute $250,000 and Tri-Met itself will add $150,000. Not that it matters, as it's all taxpayer dollars anyway. And bicycle parking fees will pay it all back in no time. Oh, wait...we can't expect cyclists to pay for parking! That would be silly. And unfair. And....
Oh and by the way: if you buy a monthly pass to ride on Tri-Met and then hand it off to somebody else because, say, you're taking a few vacation days and don't need it - Tri-Met has a present for you. If they find out that you've pulled such a dastardly stunt, they'll fine you $175. Nice guys finish last - and broke.
