The Associated Press, Willamette Week, and The Oregonian are among the media who filed requests three weeks ago for documents relating to his First Squeeze's activities, but Retread's not handing them over.
With the election looming, Gov. John Kitzhaber's office has failed to release government records that would more fully explain the role of Cylvia Hayes as first lady and what that role has cost taxpayers.
Kitzhaber's staff refuses to explain why they haven't released documents as rudimentary as government policies.
"What we're asking for is the right of every Oregonians to see," said Mark Zusman, editor of Willamette Week. The newspaper received only a portion of records it first requested last July.
"We are asking to see some very basic records that are covered by statute that they are simply stonewalling us," he said. "It really does raise the question of what are they trying to hide?"
What, indeed. But hardly surprising behavior, coming from the Goldschmidt Cowboy; his arrogance is well-documented in the public record. Why change tactics now? It's not as though Portland Democratics will fail to re-elect him, after which he can simply blow off the media altogether. For the moment, his best tactic is to have his staff run interference, then claim he was "out of the loop".
Works every time.
