A New York City government IT worker got himself a 20-day suspension without pay because he routinely answered calls to the help line in a "robotic voice", according to the complaint. Callers to the Health Department's IT help line were greeted with "You. Have. Reached. The. Help. Desk." in what was alleged to be an "over-enunciated monotone.
In the employee's defense, he has a thick Brooklyn accent, which many find hard to understand. Some government workers, it seems, have no sense of humor. Most simply have no sense. One might understand the concern if the guy worked in a 911 call center, but this is a Health Department IT helpline.
