Some more horrific than others. Yesterday an avid bicycle rider careened into a pickup truck on SE 26th and Powell and ended up losing a leg. Police detained the driver briefly, then released him. Fortunately, the rider has reportedly retained his sense of humor, which is going to figure prominently in his recovery. People who can maintain a sense of humor under dire conditions do far better than those who lack that ability.
Unfortunately but not unexpectedly, the armchair quarterbacks in the peanut gallery are largely blaming the driver. The investigation is continuing, but police likely wouldn't have released the driver if they believed the evidence suggested that he was at fault.
Powell is a state highway, and very busy at that. And peoples' lives are changed in an instant.
