Coast Guard's clearing the Willamette River of all traffic, and a couple of the kayak kiddies got really upset, so they started trying to hit the Coasties with their kayak paddles. Amusing stuff; the Coasties hooked their little plastic boat, dragged them aboard, and cuffed them on the deck
Typical Lefties: "let me do what I want, or else!" In this case, "or else" means "we get to go to jail". At this moment, the Shell icebreaker is heading downriver. A number of "activists" are hanging around by ropes on the railroad bridge, but they overlooked one critical detail: the railroad bridge is a vertical-lift bridge, so they're hanging way higher than they thought they'd be. No problem for ship passage there.
Meanwhile, the police have removed the "activists" who were hanging above the river channel, so the ship should clear the St. Johns Bridge with no problem. The other "activists" are still hanging under the bridge, and the cops don't seem inclined to bother with them.
Massive Greenpeas fail, all around.
Maybe they'll try again at Astoria. Equally successfully, I'm sure.
