They sponsored an essay contest, offering as the winning prize a trip to the United Nations in New York City. A Portland kid wrote a 500-word essay that was declared the winner. Then things turned odd: after finding out that the kid has autism, they rescinded the award.
Disability Rights Oregon is asking the Odd Fellows national board to reverse their decision or provide an explanation.
