Yesterday I mentioned the amusing situation at The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington, where administrators are looking at a 20% drop in enrollment and a resulting $6 million cut in the budget due to the antics last year of their "students":
Yes, riot police were called into play, tear gas dispensed, and armed "students" held the college president and other administrators hostage in an office for several hours.
Evergreen State College has announced that it is planning to cut $5.9 million from its budget in an effort to offset a rapidly declining enrollment rate.
The cuts were outlined by President George Bridges in a May 8 memo to the Board of Trustees, and are accompanied by plans to raise various student fees by hundreds of dollars, The Olympian reported last week.
A former Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs of Evergreen State College, Michael Zimmerman, told Campus Reform that he believes that the declining enrollment is a result of last year’s protests.
“While it is all but impossible to determine why any one student opts not to apply or to attend Evergreen, when hundreds of them make the same decision, it's difficult not to form an opinion,” Zimmerman said.
“In this case, the most likely explanation, indeed, the only viable explanation to my mind, is that the impact of last year's events are playing out in the enrollment numbers,” he continued, noting that “any web search for Evergreen brings up scores of pieces dealing with last year's riots and the handling of them by the administration.”
And the administration there continues to promulgate their idea that the riots were caused by the "alt-right", which they claim targets the college because it's a "progressive institution" - willfully ignoring the fact that the rioters were so-called "Antifa" and "Black Lives Matter" followers; no "alt-right" folks anywhere in sight. But that's how these institutions of higher vegetation operate today.
I'm really glad to have had the good fortune to participate in a sane college experience, back in the day.
And of course, now the kids at Evergreen are mad because their tuition and other costs are going up. It must be because The Man is trying to hold them down!
In related idiocy:
On March 9, the Washington and Lee University Bookstore and the Lee Chapel Museum Shop removed a book from their shelves after a Washington and Lee (W&L) professor accused the book of painting a sympathetic picture of the Confederate States of America and the Old South.
The book in question was a children’s book written about Robert E. Lee’s beloved companion and most trusted warhorse, Traveller.
Get jiggy with me: the 37-page kid's book is about a horse, yet this perfesser gets worked up because goddammit, it was a Confederate horse! So because of one perfesser's gripe, the books were pulled from the shelves for nearly a month. That's how bad things have become in American institutions of higher vegetation.
The books were eventually returned to the shelves, but the incident underscored the ongoing attempts by the far Left to erode and finally remove our basic rights. If you say or write something that they don't agree with, you will be metaphorically lynched.
